There’s been a spike of activity recently regarding AVG and its products. The tweets contain a link, hidden by a link-shortener and encourages users to go a website made-up to look exactly like the official AVG site.
Once on the page, the user is duped into thinking that they’re downloading legitimate antivirus software to keep their computer safe but the links lead to malware. Careful examination of small graphical errors and link destinations show that the website is fraudulent.
AVG is working hard with Twitter to shut down the malicious link on the social network.
If you want to follow AVG Free on Twitter, their official handle is @AVGFree. If you want to try their free antivirus product, the official AVG download site is http://free.avg.com/us-en/homepage.
